A few years ago I attempted my first intarsia with a little squirrel chart I found in my mom's knitting closet. With the leaves starting to change, I felt the need for some more squirrely action, and decided to jazz up my very first pair of mittens:
Pattern: Norwegian Mittens, Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac
Yarn: Dalegarn Freestyle, in brown, 2 skeins; Classic Elite Renaissance in Red Snails (another great color name!) 1 skein.
Needles: Size 7
New skills: I-cord cuff, thumb-trick thumbs, duplicate stitch squirrels
Started: September 16, 2006
Finished: September 28, 2006
The thumbs are just dreadful (I left too many stitches to be worked, so ugly decreasing exists), the mittens are different lengths, and I have a feeling the yarn is going to pill, but I love these mittens.
Bring on the cold, me and the squirrels are ready!
Dude! Those are so cute. I don't have too much cute knitting to show...
trapped in front of my computer, being totally inefficient. BTW, we should
discuss library stuff at Simmons - it is SO AWESOME!!!!
ADORABLE! Just the greatest squirrel mittens I have EVER seen! Okay. They
may be the only squirrel mittens I have seen, but they are GREAT!
:)
Adorable! I don't know about you, but I really MISSED squirrels while I
lived in NM.
